Karakuş Tumulus

Karakuş Tumulus is a monumental burial site believed to have been established for the female members of the Kingdom of Commagene. Eagle and lion statues, along with relief remains, can be seen on and near the tall columns surrounding the tumulus; the eagle statue to the south is the source of the site’s name, “Karakuş.” It is one of the first major archaeological stops on the route from Kahta to Mount Nemrut.
