Gerger Castle
Gerger Castle is a strategic settlement built on steep rocks on the western bank of the Euphrates River, also known in antiquity as Lower Arsameia. The castle area contains traces from the Commagene period, rock reliefs, fortification walls, and the remains of structures used during later Islamic periods. Thanks to its remote, mountainous setting, the impressive scenery around the Euphrates is as much a part of the visit as the historical remains.
