Karakuş Tumulus

Karakuş Tumulus is a monumental tomb site believed to have been built for the female members of the Kingdom of Commagene. Eagle, lion and relief remains can be seen on and near the tall columns surrounding the tumulus; the eagle statue to the south gave the site its name, “Karakuş,” meaning “black bird.” It is one of the first major archaeological stops on the route from Kahta to Mount Nemrut.
