Göbeklitepe
Göbeklitepe, northeast of Şanlıurfa, is one of the archaeological sites whose monumental structures dating to the Neolithic period and T-shaped standing stones have changed assumptions about the organization and belief systems of prehistoric communities. Excavations intensified in the mid-1990s; the site’s ritual use, extending back approximately 12,000 years, made a major impact in the scientific community.
