Dara Ancient City
Located southeast of Mardin, Dara was an important garrison city fortified at the beginning of the 6th century to protect the Eastern Roman Empire’s border with the Sasanian Empire. Its rock-cut structures, extensive defensive walls, cisterns, church and palace remains, and cemetery allow visitors to understand the city’s defense system and daily life together.
