Dara Ancient City

Dara, southeast of Mardin, is an important garrison city fortified at the beginning of the 6th century to protect the Eastern Roman Empire’s Sasanian frontier. Its rock-cut structures, extensive fortification system, cisterns, church and palace remains, and cemetery area make it possible to read the city’s defensive organization and daily life together.
