Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque)
Sultan Ahmed Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I and built by Sedefkâr Mehmed Ağa at the beginning of the 17th century. Due to the extensive use of blue tiles in its interior, it is also known worldwide as the Blue Mosque. Together with its complex, the mosque is one of the main focal points of Sultanahmet Square and lies at the center of a historic peninsula route that can be explored on foot alongside Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome area.
