Ottoman Capitals Tour Programme

DAY 1 BURSA

We arrive at CUMALIKIZIK VILLAGE. After having breakfast here (extra), we explore this beautiful village accompanied by our professional guide, visit the GREEN TOMB, commissioned in 1421 by Sultan Mehmet Çelebi, the son of Yıldırım Bayezid, and then visit the HISTORICAL CLOCK TOWER, the PANORAMIC IRGANDI BRIDGE, the 1326 MUSEUM and TOPHANE, respectively. Afterwards, we visit the tomb of OSMAN GAZI, who ruled as a bey between 1299 and 1326 and emerged from the pages of history, followed by the tomb of ORHAN GAZI, who ruled as Sultan between 1326 and 1359. We then visit the HISTORICAL GRAND MOSQUE, built by order of Bayezid I between 1396 and 1400 upon his return from the Battle of Nicopolis, where Somuncu Baba’s acquaintance Hızır Aleyhisselam prayed and which is regarded as the 5th Haram al-Sharif of Islam. (You will be enchanted by its spiritual atmosphere.) Afterwards, we take an İskender break at a venue recommended by our company, one of the magnificent flavours associated with Bursa. (Extra) Following the meal break, we explore the HISTORICAL KOZAHAN and the BEDSTENS, then visit GÖLYAZI with its magnificent views before proceeding to our accommodation hotel in Çanakkale.

DAY 2 ECEABAT (ÇANAKKALE)

After breakfast at the hotel, we proceed to Eceabat and begin our Martyrs’ Memorial tour.

During our tour of the memorial sites, we visit, respectively: SEDDÜLBAHİR CASTLE, NAMAZGÂH REDOUBT, the SEYİT ONBAŞI MONUMENT, commemorating the soldier who lifted the 275-KILOGRAM shell, RUMELİ MECİDİYE REDOUBT, SOĞANLI DERE TRENCH AREA MARTYRS’ CEMETERY, the PASSAGE, HILAL-I AHMER AND THE TRENCHES, THE MARTYRS’ MEMORIAL, ANZAC COVE (PANORAMIC), YAHYA ÇAVUŞ and CONK BAYIRI. We then take a break according to the preference of our esteemed guests (lunch – extra). Following the lunch break, we travel to EDİRNE, our border city where the cultural heritage of the Ottoman Empire is most intensely felt, with its mosques, bazaars, bridges and historic houses, representing an important cultural legacy in Thrace.

DAY 3 EDİRNE

We visit the THREE-BALCONIED MOSQUE, famous for its gate, the OLD MOSQUE (GRAND MOSQUE), famous for its inscriptions, and the SELIMIYE MOSQUE, which Mimar Sinan called “my masterpiece”. Afterwards, we visit the MUSEUM OF TURKISH AND ISLAMIC ART, BEYAZIT HOSPITAL and the TUNCA AND MERIÇ BRIDGES before proceeding to our accommodation hotel. After dinner at our hotel, we retire to rest and recover from the fatigue of this beautiful day.

DAY 3 ISTANBUL

WE BEGIN EXPLORING ISTANBUL. We visit EYÜP SULTAN, FATİH MOSQUE and SÜLEYMANİYE MOSQUE, then turn towards the Sultanahmet area, home to the oldest monuments of the city of empires. (As all museums from this point onwards are within walking distance, we will only board the vehicle on the return journey. We recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes, an identity document and a photograph for the museum card.) This will be one of the most fascinating highlights of our tour… Following the latest restoration works, the building gifted to İbrahim Pasha by Suleiman the Magnificent as a token of his affection has been opened to visitors and is currently used as the MUSEUM OF TURKISH AND ISLAMIC ART. We then continue our tour by seeing the 3 BEAUTIFUL OBELISKS REMAINING FROM THE HIPPODROME, the GERMAN FOUNTAIN. We visit HAGIA SOPHIA, which, with its 1,500-year history, is notable as Istanbul’s largest mosque. We then continue our tour through GÜLHANE PARK towards TOPKAPI PALACE, the 400-year residence of the Ottoman dynasty. We explore the palace and take photographs from its summer courtyard, which offers views of the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn all at once. After visiting the NEW MOSQUE and the SPICE BAZAAR, if we are ready for a beautiful boat tour, we join the BOAT TOUR. After adding this wonderful memory to our recollections, we complete our tour and depart for our beautiful city of Trabzon.
