Süleymaniye Mosque

Commissioned by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and built by Mimar Sinan in the 16th century, Süleymaniye Mosque is one of the masterpieces of classical Ottoman architecture. With its commanding location overlooking the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus, extensive complex, monumental dome system and cemetery, it should be regarded not only as a place of worship but also as a comprehensive urban planning achievement.
