Sultan Ahmed Mosque
The Sultan Ahmed Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I and built by Sedefkâr Mehmed Agha at the beginning of the 17th century. Due to the extensive use of blue tiles in its interior, it is also known worldwide as the Blue Mosque. Together with its külliye complex, the mosque is one of the main focal points of Sultanahmet Square and lies at the heart of the historic peninsula walking route, which also includes Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome.
