Ancient City of Ephesus
Located in Selçuk, Ephesus was inhabited for a long period from prehistoric times through the Ottoman era. Particularly during the Hellenistic and Roman periods, it became one of the major port, trade and cultural centers of the Mediterranean world. The Library of Celsus, the Great Theatre, sacred sites and the early Christian heritage in the surrounding area reflect the city’s multilayered character. Ephesus was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015.
