Şapinuva Ancient City
Şapinuva, in the Ortaköy district, was one of the politically, militarily and religiously significant centers of the Hittite period. Correspondence and archival documents uncovered during excavations show that the royal court was present here and demonstrate the city’s strong position within the administrative network. By offering a different Hittite urban experience from the Hattuşa–Alacahöyük axis, Şapinuva is an important complement to Çorum’s archaeological route.
