Şapinuva Ancient City

Şapinuva, located in the Ortaköy district, was one of the politically, militarily and religiously significant centres of the Hittite period. Correspondence and archival documents uncovered during excavations indicate that the royal court was present here and reveal the city’s influential position within the administrative network. As it offers a different Hittite urban experience from the Hattusa-Alacahöyük axis, Şapinuva is an important addition to Çorum’s archaeology route.
