Ancient City of Sardis
Sardis was the capital of the Kingdom of Lydia and one of the ancient world’s major trading centers. With its gymnasium-bath complex, synagogue, Temple of Artemis and the nearby Bin Tepe tumuli, it reflects a long historical continuity extending from Lydia through the Roman and Byzantine periods; Sardis and Bin Tepe were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2025.
