Bitlis Castle rises on one of the steep rocky slopes in the city center, forming a commanding silhouette over the historic fabric of Bitlis. Although its interior may not always be accessible due to infill and conservation conditions, the visible mass of its walls and panoramic setting are a strong part of the city’s identity. It can be included in a city walk together with the bazaar, madrasas and stone bridges.
