Rock Tombs of the Kings
Carved into the steep limestone cliffs at the foot of Amasya Castle, the Rock Tombs of the Kings are monumental tombs belonging to the Pontus kings who made Amasya their capital during the Hellenistic period. Although numerous rock tombs are known along the Yeşilırmak Valley, five royal tombs are particularly prominent among the surviving examples. Together with Amasya Castle, the tombs are included on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
