Ani Archaeological Site
Ani, east of Kars, is a historic city established on the edge of the Arpaçay Valley that became one of the region’s important centres of trade, culture and administration in the Middle Ages thanks to its strategic position on the Silk Road. Its walls, churches, mosques, palace, caravanserai and other civic structures reveal the traces left by different faiths and cultures within the same urban fabric. The Ani Archaeological Area was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016.
