Ani Archaeological Site
Ani, located east of Kars on the edge of the Arpaçay Valley, is a historic city that became one of the region’s major centers of trade, culture and administration thanks to its strategic position on the Silk Road during the Middle Ages. Its walls, churches, mosques, palace, caravanserai and other civic structures reveal the legacy of different faiths and cultures within the same urban fabric. The Archaeological Site of Ani was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016.
